frequently asked questions:

contacting us

Q: what's your telephone number or email address?

A: we do not publish our telephone numbers or email addresses. if you need to know them you will find a way, or we will have contacted you previously with them. please use the contact form above if you have no other method; we will reply to you.

mailing lists / promos

Q: Can you e-mail me news? Do you have a mailing list?

A: if you would like to be e-mailed when our artist web pages are updated, or receive a monthly recognizer update, you might be interested in receiving... the recognizer. tell us in a brief message using the above form.

Q: I'm a DJ. Can you send me promos? I'm a journalist. Can you send me review copies of your releases for my newspaper or magazine?

although we mail some product out from our office directly, this is of middle priority. if you submit your contact details and a good reason, we will review it for consideration.

if you are outside the UK, mail-outs will be few due to the costs involved. if you really think you should be getting stuff from us, state your case and be heard. you never know.

If you are in the UK writing for a publication based outside the UK (print or electronic), please send a note from your editor (or relevant authority) vouching for your accreditation and have them contact us directly to nominate you to our 'UK based international contact' list.

Demos

Q: Does recognizer accept demos?

yes, but please remember the rough genre of our artists; there may be a more suitable label out there for your work. please send demos in simple packaging with legible contact details remembering that large items take longer to process. we do not appreciate fancy packages that will not fit through our mail slot.. send demos to:

recognizer - A&R
(we are moving as of May/June 2008)
England

we prefer to receive demos on CD, but any other format is acceptable. please do not send too much material; 3 or 4 tracks is ample for a demo. don't send us silly formats like pcm-f1 on beta cassette, or 8-track though; they will be thrown away.

unfortunately, we are not always able to reply individually to all people who submit work to us, but we can assure you that your music will be listened to! if we ever cannot listen to everything sent in, we will state it on this page. we will contact you if we like what we hear and wish to discuss it further with you. on occasion, we may contact some with referral information on someone else who might be interested if we like it, but are not suited to the promotion of it. we know how hard it is to get recognition for your work, and eventually get a deal. if you want to make sure that your material has been received, please send it by registered post, but the Royal Mail works pretty well. please note: demos which don't fit our criteria will be destroyed for your protection, and for legal reasons. we don't generally return them either.

Q: I sent you a CD last week/month/year. Did you get it? What do you think of it?

as mentioned above, our A&R folks aren't able to acknowledge receipt of every submission. they wouldn't have time to listen to them! if they like what they hear, they'll contact you. *did you include your correct postal address or an email address should we we wish to contact you?

Q: Can I send you MP3 demos? (or other electronic format)

please DON'T send us files by e-mail. (SD-II, MP3, WAV, AIFF etc.) They will be deleted without being heard. but... we do have an ftp uploading facility; you must contact us first to obtain it's details.
